Hue was formerly known as the Imperial capital, specifically because it was the Nguyen Dynasty's base. Its history became turbulent during the Vietnam War, when the people of Hue were held by the Viet Cong and thousands were murdered. Despite Hue's history, it is still a good area to visit because of its many cultural and historical attractions.
The Imperial Citadel is a very famous Hue attraction. It was the place where the ruling families lived. There are museums, art galleries, temples and moats in the complex. The Hue Jungle Crevice is the spot where 3000 Viet Cong victims may be commemorated as they were pushed into the crevice. Another place worth dropping by is the My An Hot Spring and Spa where you can enjoy the steam of the springs and some health benefits, too.
Hue cuisine is also known as the Imperial cuisine. Try local dishes such as the bun bo Hue, a soup made with noodles, beef slices, and chilli oil, and the Nem Lui which is a sweet dish of grilled minced pork.
