Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and is a mixture of the East and the West, specifically because of the very noticeable Chinese and French influences. The name Ha Noi came from the Nguyen Dynasty in 1831. Hanoi was originally the capital of North Vietnam, but after the 1975 reunification of the country, it became capital of the whole of Vietnam.
Hanoi is Vietnam's leading city in research and study. The first university of Vietnam which used to be a temple, the Temple of Literature – Van Mieu, is situated in Hanoi. Some of the various Hanoi attractions include the Army Museum that showcases weapons used during the Vietnam War e.g. the T-54 tank, the MiG-21 jet, etc; the Hoan Kiem Lake, a favorite park of both natives and tourists where relaxation may be done; and the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre where you'll learn Vietnamese history and folk legends in the most entertaining way.
Hanoi is a mixture of the medieval and modern periods which is why countless people love visiting it.
