Khiva in Uzbekistan is an important historical site that was once a part of the Great Silk Road. The Silk Road was a key factor in the development of the greatest civilizations of the world. It also helped in laying the foundations of today's society.
Nowadays, Khiva is a quiet, sleepy town that is visited by tourists for its well-preserved and immaculately maintained historic centre. It is divided into areas wherein the older section - Ichon Qala - contains stunning Islamic architecture built over a span of 600 years. The other area, Dichon Qala, is where majority of the population resides and where more modern buildings are located.
Among Khiva's many remarkable sites, those in the historic town centre of Inchon Qala are the best to start with. Inside, visitors will find the Khuna Ark, Kalta Minor, Juma Mosque, and Islam Khoja Minaret.
Aside from sightseeing, tourists may want to try the delectable local dishes at Khiva's eateries or buy some UNESCO-sponsored silk from Qqozi Kalon.
