Fray Bentos is a town closer to Argentina than other Uruguayan cities and towns. It is considered the Uruguay River's port city. The town has great harbour views. It is also a good spot for doing some fishing. It used to be known as Uruguay's ‘Meat Processing City' since the Liebig meat factory or the El Anglo operated there for more than one hundred years. Now El Anglo is closed and has been replaced by the Industrial Revolution Museum, one of the main attractions of Fray Bentos.
Tourists and locals looking for relaxation, peace and quiet, and some fun should drop by the Las Canas resort which is located less than ten kilometres from the town centre. The resort has a must visit garden and park and also offers sailing activities aside from letting people enjoy swimming, sun bathing, or simply hanging out in the sparkling waters and the beautiful shores of Fray Bentos. The town may not be as big as other Uruguayan towns, but is still worth visiting if you're in Uruguay.
