Uruguay is the second smallest South American country. Its name in English means ‘the river of colourful birds'. Uruguay is known for its attractive beaches and fun night life.
You can swim, sun bathe, and surf on Uruguay's great beaches such as the Punta del Este, the Cabo Polonio, La Paloma, among others. If you love sports, you'll enjoy watching a game between Uruguay's top two football teams: Penarol and Nacional. If you're a foodie, you should not pass up on Uruguayan cuisine. The country's cuisine characteristically has high fat content, low spice content, and a lot of grains, but is definitely pleasing to most people's palate. Vegetarians will love raviolis. Meat lovers will enjoy the empanadas. Bar hoppers will take interest in the local Gramajo composed of eggs, ham, and fried potatoes.
In the past, the country was considered South America's secret getaway because only a handful of people knew about it. Today, the secret is out and Uruguay keeps on attracting countless visitors.
