Goreme is a small town situated in the heart of Turkey. Despite its size, it is still considered a tourist centre because of the beautiful fairy chimneys, museums and churches that showcase amazing artworks, plus good food and night entertainment that people are sure to enjoy.
Goreme's existence dates back to the persecution of the Christians by the Romans. Christian refugees ran away and decided to settle in the area we now call Goreme. Several churches are found here such as the Tokali Church, the Church of Saint Barbara, and the Elmali Church. These churches are decorated with frescoes which are part of the Goreme attractions.
The town's main attraction is the Open Air Museum which does not only contain frescoes specifically depicting Christ's life, but also displays fairy chimneys. There are nice trails and views in Goreme – just use the local map for guidance. When in Goreme, you'll enjoy Turkey's night dinner for its good wine and food not to mention the local dance performances.
