Tunis is the capital and biggest city of Tunisia in North Africa.
The city of Tunis offers an undoubled mix of old Arab and Ottoman old town filled with small streets and souk traders and the new town in French colonial style. This cultural mix makes Tunis a nice place to visit, a place in which you may dedicate different days to different parts of the city and feel like traveling trough space and time in a night.
The old town, usually called Medina, is in classic Arab style with small streets that seem to lead always to the biggest landmark - the Zeytouna Mosque from 732 AD, while offering numerous interesting traditional coffee-houses and restaurants.
The Ville Nouvelle (New Town) of Tunis on the other hand is the place for nice walks and international style restaurants, bars and clubs. The most remarkable landmark here is the colonial Cathedral of St. Vincent de Paul and the Bab el Bahr or the Gate to the Sea. Another must see is Bardo Museum and its collection of Roman mosaics.
