Hammamet is the most known summer resort of Tunisia in Africa.
The town of Hammamet itself was a small fishing village with mineral bats some 100 years ago, but it was discovered by Romanian millionaire Georgi Sebastian in the 1920's and became a exclusive visiting spot for the elite of prewar Europe. Later Hammamet developed into a world class sea resort with hotels stretching to a range of 10 km. of the city.
Hammamet itself has few landmarks, biggest being the Medina (Old Arab town) of the city with its historic fortifications, souk streets and typical oriental flair. The Seabstian villa is still standing in Hammamet, serving as International Cultural Center, while most of the luxury hotels are in an area called Yasmine Hammamet with one of the best white-sand beaches of the area.
Another attractions in Hammamet include Flipper Aquapark and Carthageland, which are very popular with children and the numerous classy shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants in the newer part of Hammamet.
