Dar es Salaam was established by a Zanzibar sultan in the year 1862. Dar es Salaam was merely a fishing village in the past. Nowadays, it is a trading centre of Tanzania, apart from being a port city, and is even the financial hub of Tanzania. What you can expect from Dar es Salaam include: a beautiful harbour with scenic views, several historical structures, good dining spots and some shops that make your visit to the place worthwhile.
One of the Dar es Salaam attractions recommended for a visit is the
Makumbusho Village Museum
which shows the various houses constructed by Tanzanian tribes. There are also
Ngoma dance performances
you can watch (check the schedule first). Dar es Salaam also has some beaches you can relax on e.g. the
South Beach or the Kigamboni
and the
Bahari Beach Hotel
.
Hiking in Pugu Hills
and visiting the
National Museum
is also included in the list of things people can enjoy in the area.
