Sweden in Northern Europe, is bordered by the countries of Denmark, Finland, and Norway. To the east of the country is the Gulf of Bothnia and The Baltic Sea. With about 9.3 million people living in Sweden, it is the biggest of the Scandinavian countries. It is a country that offers a mix of experiences from medieval villages, cosmopolitan cities, icy tundras, and tranquil lakes and forests. Sweden's cities are divided into the three regions of Norrland, Svealand, and Gotaland, and are as diverse as a country can be. Norrland located on the north part of the country is filled with lush forests, rivers and lakes, enormous marshes, and big mountains. It is home to the cities of Gavle, Lulea, Umea, and Sundsvall. Svealand is the central region of Sweden and is home to the nation's capital Stockholm as well as the city of Uppsala. It also includes the provinces of Uppland, Vastmanland, Narke, Sodermanland, Varmland, and Dalarna, which is widely considered to be the very heart and essence of Sweden. Gotaland is located at the southern end of the country. The largest cities here include Gothenburg, where the largest university in the whole of Scandinavia is located, and Malmo, which is a port city that boasts a cultural mix of Swedish and Danish heritage. Holidays in Sweden are filled with many historic attractions as well as activities that many tourists and locals alike find irresistible. In fact, Visby on Gotland Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, travellers can marvel at the historic city wall and Cathedral and the church ruins that were all built around the 13th century. Meanwhile, Are in Jamtland, Sweden, is one of the largest skiing resorts in the country boasting a total of 44 lifts. Getting in to Sweden is easy.
