Katwijk

The town of Katwijk is a small seaside town in Suriname. 
Katwijk is named after a well known sea resort in the formal colonial ruler of Suriname – the Netherlands. Historically Katwijk was one of the first villages of the Dutch settlers in South America. Nowadays Katwijk offers a small number of attractions as it packs several colonials stile houses and many picturesque plantations in its surroundings. 
Interesting is the ethnic mix of the city, which as in most of Suriname, contains people from all over the world. Katwijk is also a good base for sea and jungle exploration in the near-by surroundings of the town.
