Khartoum is the administrative capital and second largest city of Sudan in Africa.
The city of Khartoum is recently new - it was founded in 1821 as a army camp, but it met intensive development to become the capital of Sudan. It was the center of the Mahdi rebellion in the end of the 19th century and Khalifa's House Museum is a good place to learn more for this period. Later it became English colonial center and to this period the city owns its colonial style central part. Other attractions of Khartoum include the Omdurman camel market, the Arab souk and Sudan's National Museum, with archaeological artifacts dating more than 6000 years in the past.
Khartoum is also knowns as a major business and transportation hub, through which pass almost all of the products with which is known Sudan in their way to export. This is thanks to it being a port on Nile, rail and road hub and having an international airport.
