Seville is the 4th largest city in Spain with a population of 1.6 million in the metropolitan area. It is considered as the financial and cultural centre south of the country. It sits on the banks of the historic Guadalquivir River, which divides the city in two: the Sevilla and Triana.   The city of Seville experiences blazing hot summers with the month of July being the warmest, and it goes through mild winters with January being the coldest month. The perfect time to visit Seville is during spring when the weather is ideal and the city is less crowded.   Seville’s attractions are many, and there are three that should not be missed - The Cathedral of Seville, the Alcazar, and the Archivo General de Indias. These are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and each features a unique and intricate Moorish aesthetic.   The Cathedral of Seville is without a doubt, the biggest church globally in terms of volume and area. It has a total area of 11,520 square metres and rises to a height of 37 metres. The interior is lavishly decorated in gold and has a total of 44 chapels inside. It is also said that the remains of Christopher Columbus lies in one of the church’s tomb.   The Alcazar is a beautiful Moorish palace built in the 7th century. Its gardens are a fusion of Andalusian, Moorish, and Christian traditions. Meanwhile, the Archivo General de Indias is a repository of documents which illustrates the Spanish Empires history in the Philippines and the Americas.   While visiting this southern city in Spain, it’s always good to experience some of its famous activities. Seville’s bull fights are worth seeing at the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza, and a flamenco show at The Cultural Centre is not just popular among tourists but also the locals.   Like many other Spanish city Seville’s restaurants are known for Tapas. And there’s no shortage of great tapas places around the Cathedral and centre of town. Seville also boasts many great places to drink and party the night away. In the summer, Isla Cartuja is the perfect place to be. One can also find the best Seville hotels deals are offered during the month of November.
