Malaga is a city in the Andalucía region located in the southern part of Spain. It is also the birthplace of world-renowned artist Pablo Picasso. The city has over 500,000 residents making it the 6th largest city in Spain in terms of population. Malaga's location on the Costa del Sol in the Mediterranean gives the city its warm subtropical climate, which is perfect for one of Malaga's activities - frolicking on the beach. With summer lasting for about 8 months, Malaga offers tourists a wide range of activities to enjoy, including water sports, as well as shopping and dining is restaurants along Malaga's famous bay, Bahia de Malaga. Here, visitors will find some of the best beaches, resorts, and hotels in Malaga. In fact, the boom in the city's tourism is centred on its famous coastline. But everything about the city is not all about its pristine beaches and resorts. Malaga's downtown has many things to offer a traveller. The restored and renovated central zone boasts of historic buildings, churches, and museums. One of the major attractions of Malaga is the Castillo de Gibralfaro, which is a citadel built in the 14th century and offers magnificent views of the city. There's also the La Alcazaba, a Muslim fortification built in the 9th century and now also houses a museum. Speaking of museums, visitors to the city should not miss the Picasso Museum which houses Picasso’s exclusive paintings. And then there’s also Picasso's birthplace on Plaza de la Merced, which features Picasso's painting when he was still a little boy. Other popular Malaga attractions include the Roman Theatre in the old Jewish quarter, the Catedral de Malaga which is located at the heart of the city, and the Paseo del Parque which leads to the harbour and the main commercial avenue of the city, Calle Lairos. As most of the main attraction and activity in the city lies in the centre of town, many fine hotels in Malaga are concentrated here.
