Catalunya Square
Although geographically it is not, Catalunya Square is accepted as the inarguable center of Barcelona. Physically separating the ancient old town and 19th century built L´eixample district, Catalunya square is where most of the city´s most important boulevards meet as well as most of the tourists who visit the city.
Catalunya square today is the center of urban transportation as well. Metro, train or buses leave from Catalunya square to all parts of the city and even to nearby towns and cities. It is surrounded with big shopping centers, the famous El Corte Ingles being the most dominant one. Considering that it was a rural area outside the city until 19th century, it can be said that Catalunya Square lived a accelerated change to become the city center.
