Stretching across the Mediterranean and occupying part of the Iberian Peninsula, Spain is a country in Europe teeming with visual and cultural attractions. In fact, it comes second to Italy with the most number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world.   Spain’s cities are rich in traditions that make them unique from each other. This is due to the fact that Spain is positioned close to the African continent and Morocco, both of which had a profound influence in many of the cities in Spain. A lot of this external influence has ingrained itself in the country’s history and culture. Because of this, a holiday to Spain is bound to be a memorable adventure.   One of the very first stops on any travel to Spain is the country’s capital, Madrid. Here, the nation's famous artists like Gaudi, Picasso, Goya, and Velasquez are honoured with great pride in the city's many museums and galleries, as well as the Prado.   Barcelona, a vibrant coastal urban centre, is famous for its many spectacular Gaudi architecture. Meanwhile, the cities of Granada, Seville, and Cordoba are places where one can view intricate Moorish architecture, which includes the Real Alcazar in Seville and The Grand Mosque in Cordoba. Pamplona is an exciting city in northern Spain renowned for the San Fermin Festival, or more commonly known as "The Running of the Bulls".   The Balearic Island cities such as Majorca, Ibiza, and Minorca are famous for their pristine beaches and are also great for family travels to Spain. Airports in Majorca, Mahon, and Ibiza make it easy to get to and from the Balearic Islands.   Bilbao, in the Basque Region of the country, is the home of the famous Guggenheim Museum. Cadiz, in the Andalucia Region, is the oldest metropolis in Western Europe and is the location of the famous Carnaval. And Granada is a visual delight with the majestic snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains as its backdrop.   With so many wonderful cities in Spain to visit and delight it, it’s hard for any traveller to choose where to start their holiday in this rich, vibrant European country.
