Slovakia is a small landlocked country in Central Europe.
The country of Slovakia is one of the newest countries in Europe, gained its independence after the end of the Cold War. This was and the first time the there is a separate Slovak country ever, since the lands of the Slovaks were always part of bigger countries like Great Moravia, Hungary, The Hapsburg Empire, Austria-Hungary or Czechoslovakia.
Slovakia usually is underestimated by tourist mainly because of the fame of Czech republic's Prague as historic and architectural center of the region. But the capital of Slovakia Bratislava has its own charm and a handful of landmarks that are worth visiting and admiring.
Other places of interest in Slovakia are the Tatra mountains region with its hiking and skiing opportunities and several very interesting typical, but and unique Central European towns with picturesque castles and mostly Renaissance and Gothic architecture.
