Butare

Butare is the spiritual capital of Rwanda in East Africa.
The city of Butare contains a mix of various cultural and architectural stiles. It has kept sme colonial flair, combined with the new excitement of the African nations. It is the cultural and educational center of Rwanda due to to being home to the National University of Rwanda and the Rwanda National Institute of Scientific Research.
Major point of interest in Butare is the National Museum, which holds impressive collection of artifacts from the vast history and ethnology of the region. Other landmarks of the city include Gikongoro Genocide memorial and the traditional Butare Market.
Butare is a good base for exploring the near-by region, which includes interesting places like: Gitarama with its art museum, the cathedral town of Kabgayi and the grottoes of Bihongor at Mushubati.
