One of the loveliest cities in Russia, Petrozavodsk lies on the shores of the stunning Lake Onega. It has a myriad of green parks, squares, and beautiful tree-lined avenues. Its proximity to Finland gives it a markedly European atmosphere, which is probably great for its large population of students.
Getting around is easy enough as the city is moderate in size and buses run frequently along its major thoroughfares. Then, there's also the railway station which is just 30 minutes walk from the lake. For the most part, walking is a recommended activity Petrozavodsk, as well as mushroom and berry picking. So, sightseeing won't be a problem. Petrozavodsk main attractions are its neoclassical architecture, the lake, the Kivach Waterfalls, Kizhi, and the Finnish Theatre.
One of the best hotels in the city is the well-kept Hotel Karelia. There's also the smaller Hotel Fregat and Hotel Severnaya perfect for availing great hotel deals in Petrozavodsk.
