Sibiu is a town situated in Transylvania, Romania. It was once the capital of the Saxons, serving as its cultural and political centre. While it has gone past its heyday, Sibiu still revels in being a centre of culture in the country. In 2007, the town once again gained international fame when it was designated as "Capital of Culture" by the European Union. Since then, Sibiu's historic centre has been renovated, with newly cobble-stoned malls and squares, and the strange eyelid-looking rooftop windows. This distinction made the town one of Romania's tourism capitals, playing host to tourists who want to experience its magnificent medieval charms, great food, and beautiful landscapes. The main attraction here is the 14th-century Gothic cathedral. Nearby is the Brukenthal Museum, which is an impressive Baroque-style structure. It houses a collection on coins, books, engravings, and paintings owned by a former governor.
