Located on the coast of the Black Sea, Constanta is Romania's second most influential city, and its oldest. It is the country's largest seaport as well as the third biggest in the whole of Europe. This makes it the perfect jump-off point for exploring the majestic beauty and richness of the sea.
The city of Constanta, founded around 2,600 years ago, was named after the niece of Constantine the Great. Even then it is one of the most vital ports in the world where its Greek founders traded with the native Tomis.
Aside from being a significant seaport, Constanta boasts of many historic and beautiful attractions, including the old casino and promenade. Opened in 1911, the casino was built in an Art-Nouveau style. The Ovid statue with its historical significance is also a must-see.
For the history and culture buffs, The National Museum of History and Archeology is the perfect place to go. It houses an impressive collection of Greek and Roman figures as well as extremely rare glassware.
