Lodz is the third largest city in Poland. It is not known why the city's name when translated in English means boat and why the locals call themselves the Boat people. The first settlers of Lodz came during the 14th century but it was only during the 19th century that the city started to grow after it was considered Poland's Textile City. In the past few years, Lodz lost tourists and investors to other cities. Nowadays, the boat people have started reinventing the city by focusing on film creation and the hosting of film festivals.
Lodz is also the capital of clubbing in Poland. Its Piotrkowska Street is famous for lively nightlife. A variety of clubs and discos actually stand on Piotrkowska. Whether you want some jazz music, modern music, etc you'll find them all in Lodz. Good restaurants also abound in the city such as the Klub Spadkobiercow designed in 19th century style which serves traditional Polish cuisine, and the Havana Restaurant that specializes in Cuban dishes.
