Located one the southern coast of Peru, Nazca remained largely unknown until American professor Paul Kosock discovered the famously enigmatic Nazca Lines in 1939. After this discovery, the town grew in popularity among tourists who want to explore the mystery, and perhaps the answer to the intriguing ancient lines.
What makes the Nazca Lines such an attraction is its vastness, number, and complexity. Many of the lines are massive geographical symbols that include monkeys, fish, lizards, spiders, and hummingbirds. Some of these amazing figures were measured at almost 700 feet wide. Today, there is an estimated 300 figures and 10,000 lines that span an area of over 525 sq km between the Ingenio and Nazca Rivers.
However, the city of Nazca has other things to offer its visitors. The 2000-year old Aqueducts of Cantalloc are certainly worth a visit. And the Chauchilla Cematary and Chicchitara Carving Rocks with their rich Incan symbolisms should satiate even the most discerning of travellers.
