Arequipa is so much more than just Peru's 2nd largest city. Just take the time to explore this town and be treated to some of the most rugged terrains in the country. Snowy mountain peaks, active volcanoes, high-altitude deserts, salt lakes, and thermal hot springs are just some of the places visitors can go to enjoy an exhilirating adventure.
A trip here means visiting the famous Colca Canyon, which at 3,500 metres deep, is one of the deepest trenches in the world. It is also the best spot to view the majestic Andean condor. Don't miss a meditative walk thru the passageways of Santa Catalina Convent.
Arequipa is known for its Spanish-colonial buildings made with sillar, a white volcanic rock, from which the city earned its nickname "The White City", and its historic centre was tagged as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architecture and pristine historic condition.
Indeed, there's no place in southern Peru quite like Arequipa. Here, one can enjoy in both urban and outdoor pleasures.
