Ciudad Del Este is a modern city close to the Brazilian and Argentinian borders of Paraguay.
The city of Ciudad Del Este was founded only half a century ago as a trading hub and home for the workers of the biggest river dam in South America. The dam itself is not far away and is worth a visit if you have several days in the city.
Most travelers, however, use the city as a base for exploring 2 of the most beautiful waterfalls in South America - Paraguay's highest waterfall, the Salto Monday and the Iguazu falls, which is on the borders between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina and is considered one of the world's greatest wonders. Iguazu falls includes more than 250 water falls that are spread in an picturesque tropical landscape.
The only other attraction of Ciudad Del Este are its shopping opportunities, which attract visitors from Brazil and Argentina, attracted by the relatively lower prices, which are partially possible due to the high levels of smuggling in the area.
