Palau is an island country found near the Philippines, specifically in the Micronesian region of Oceania. Palau used to be under the administration of the United States of America. It officially became an independent nation in the year 1994. It is believed that the very first settlers in the island were either Polynesians or Asians.
Palau is world renowned for having many snorkelling and diving spots. The waters surrounding the island are rich in coral reef and in marine life, which is no wonder why a lot of divers and water sports lovers enjoy visiting Palau. A famous Palau dive site is the Blue Corner where close encounters with sharks are to be expected. Blue Holes, the German Channel and the Ulong Channel are other popular diving spots in the island. Palau also has something unique: the so called Jellyfish Lake which has jellyfish that do not sting because of being used to having no predators in the waters. Touring Palau's World War II battle fields is also a good activity.
