Nizwa

Nizwa is one of the former capitals of Oman in the Middle East.
The town of Nizwa is known for its souk market, the wonderful handmade silverware that is made here and for the fact that it was the capital of Oman in the 6th and 7th century. The most notable places to see in Nizwa are the two castles - the fort of the 17th century and the medieval castle of the 9th century.
The area around Nizwa is good for exploring mountain villages of Oman and the interesting mountains of Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) and Jebel Shams (Sun Mountain). Not far away in the Hajar Mountains is found the picturesque Grand Canyon of Oman.
