Trondheim is the third biggest city of Norway in Northern Europe. It is also a very historical and spiritual place to visit. Trondheim is widely known with its enormous Gothic cathedral, which was build over the grave of St. Olav (King Olav Haraldsson) and is one of the most popular places for pilgrimage of the Catholic church. But Trondheim is also full of history and arts. With its strategic location over a large port and accessing one of the biggest fertile valleys of Norway, the city was a major center of the region for more than 1000 years, resulting in many historical buildings and events that have taken place here.
One of the major events that take place in Trondheim are the annual Olav Days around July 28 (Olsok) featuring concerts, lectures, exhibits, tours and religious services.
Landmarks of Trondheim are the National Museum for Music and Musical Instruments, The Munkholmen cloister ruins and The Erkebispegården - the oldest Nordic non-secular building.
