Ibadan, a city located at the junction of the forest and the savannah in south-western Nigeria, is the third largest urban area in the country. It was once the centre of governance during the British colonial period, as evidenced by the fortifications which still stands today. Currently, the city is a key transit point between the coastal regions and the northern areas of Nigeria.
Ibadan enjoys a dry and tropical wet climate with relatively constant temperatures throughout the year. The best time to visit the city is perhaps during August, when there is a lull in rainfall and the weather is not too hot to enjoy the city sights.
Some of the most fascinating places to visit here are the museum inside the Institute of African Studies, which features a number of prehistoric bronze statues and carvings. There's also the University of Ibadan zoo and the botanical garden in Agodi. Not to be missed is the iconic structure of the Bower Memorial Tower, which can be seen from anywhere in the city.
