Benin City is a town located in Southern Nigeria, about 25 miles to the north of Benin River. The city is known for being the centre of the country's rubber industry. However, processing palm nuts into oil is also considered a key industry in the city, too.
Education also plays a vital role in Benin City, as it is home to a number of Nigeria's higher learning institutions, including Ambrose Alli University, University of Benin, and Benson Idahosa University.
And while tourism here is not a significant industry, the city is not strapped of historic landmarks or attractions. There is the National Museum located at the centre of town around King's Square. It houses many artefacts related to the Benin Empire, such as bronze figures, terracotta, and cast iron pieces. There's also the Oba Palace and the traditional markets found on King's Square.
More than anything, the city is home to various festivals that celebrate different seasons and historic occasions, including the Igue Festival.
