Queenstown is a town in central Otago, New Zealand Queenstown boldly claims it is the adventure capital of the world. This sublime New Zealand town has the energetic and brash undertones of a young confident city. Better still, it is set amid one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. The alpine resort on Lake Wakatipu began its life as an 1860s gold-mining town, but it now draws droves of outdoor enthusiasts for kayaking, bungee jumping, hiking and skiing. For a more mild-mannered adventure, take a quiet cruise through nearby Milford Sound, part of the Fjordland National Park World Heritage area, or sample South Island pinot noir from one of the region's 75 wineries. No matter the season, you won't want to stay indoors. When visiting Queenstown you should keep in mind, that the city is always full ongoing adventurous attractions and events. Whatever you are looking for you can find it here. If you are the adventurous type there are a lot of activities you may choose from. There's bungy-jumping, skydiving, para-gliding, hang-gliding, jet-boating, horse-riding, mountain- or quadbikeriding, and much more. Other than that your main activities will be determined by the season you choose. In summer you might want to try out some of the 1-day walking tracks, such as the Moonlight Track or Ben Lommond Summit Track, or even hike several days on one of the great walks, such as Routburn, Milford Sound or Keplar Track. In winter Queenstown surprises with a variety of close ski-fields between 20 min and 1 hour drive out of town (Ski rentals and shuttles available in town). Ski-season starts up in late June with the Winter Festival and ends in October. In winter, the mountains make Queenstown a key destination for the world's skiers and snowboarders, who visit the slopes by day and take advantage of the town's many bars and clubs by night. Queenstown is buzzing almost every night of the week giving you a wideranged choice between restaurants, bars or nightclubs some open till the early morning hours giving you the opportunity to wittness the amazing sunrise.
