Nepal's third largest city is Pokhara. This is where most of the Annapuma region treks begin. Pokhara is home to Phewa Lake one of the most beautiful places in all of Nepal. Surrounding the lake is a forest filled with monkeys with snowcapped mountain peaks in the background. A number of other lakes are in the area. Devis Falls is a spectacular set of falls that plunge down into a cave disappearing from view. The Mahendra cave just outside of Pokhara is a famous cave that is located at the northern end of the city. The International Mountain Museum is full of history about mountaineering. There is information about the Sherpa's and about all the peaks in the area. The Gurkha Memorial Museum is dedicated to Nepal's famous soldiers. Uniforms, knives, flags and other memorabilia can be seen on display. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes in Pokhara to enjoy local or international fare and the hotels range from very inexpensive to expensive.
