Kathmandu

Kathmandu is Nepal's capital and largest city. The city is a hub for climbers and has recently grown into a top vacation spot that caters to everyone's budget. There has been a great deal of growth recently in the city in part thanks to the increased tourism and interest in Nepal. The city has origins back for over 2,000 years. It is also the cultural center of the country. The majority of climbing or trekking expeditions start in the capital. There are many historical monuments, architectural wonders and cultural highlights. The Kathmandu Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kathmandu is well known for its casinos that are open 24 hours a day. Many attractions can be enjoyed in the capital city like Durbar Square, the Monkey Temple that is a Buddhist temple, Balaju Water Gardens, Budhanikantha, a stone sculpture and too many temples to list. Museums are also plentiful in Kathmandu with the National Museum and the National History Museum to name just two.
