Vilanculos

Vilanculos is a former resort town in Mozambique, Africa.
The resort of Vilanculos had its highs after World War II, when it turned in one of the favorite destinations of the rich and famous of the time. This period finished with the civil war that broke in Mozambique in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century.
Nowadays Vilanculos is slowly regaining its popularity amongst tourists, but it is still away from its past glory. Its good infrastructure and appealing beaches, however, are sufficient to make the place more attractive again.
One of the best attractions reachable from Vilanculos is the Bazaruto Archipelago, which is situated 20km (12 miles) from the port of the town. This beautiful area is featuring white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and very rich underwater life including even the illusive dugong, also known as manatee.
