Mexico is the biggest country in Central America and one of the countries in the Americas that have kept some of their Native American heritage. The history of the land that is called today Mexico goes back many thousands of years before the European invasion. Those land were the cradle of Maya, Olmec, Tarascan, and Aztec civilizations which left numerous artifacts and archaeological landmarks. Those sites in Mexico are vast and varied, but one should keep in mind Teotihuacan, Chichen Itza, Palenque, El Tajin, and Monte Alban among just a few. Many of the artifacts are displayed in the numerous museums in near-by or in major cities of this wonderful country. The Conquistador invasion ended the development of the Native peoples and introduced the colonial era in Mexico. From this time are most of the interesting churches and cathedrals and the Spanish colonial style buildings in many major cities of Mexico. This era was followed by civil and territorial wars, rebellions, dictatorships, recessions and earthquakes. Nevertheless this colonial heritage mixed with the Native traditions forming the modern and quite unique architecture and culture styles of Mexico. But Mexico is not only history. It is a rapidly developing country that in the recent years is referred as the “Mexican Miracle” for the tempo of its development. Nevertheless there are still colorful and picturesque traditional villages and rural ares still pretty much unsoiled of this rapid development. Mexico is truly a place that everyone may find its special spot – the place that is perfect for his particular needs. Mexico offers enormous variety of tourism options starting with the 10.000 km. of Pacific and Caribbean sandy beaches, going trough some remarkable colonial and modern cities and finishing in the numerous interesting ruins of ancient times. It is all here – a small piece of everything that you may wish.
