Benghazi, a city in northeastern Libya, is also a main seaport and the country's 2nd largest city. It is an educational, commercial, and administrative centre, where Gar Younis University is located as well as several government buildings.
The city's main sources of economic income include oil refining, salt and food processing, brewing, tanning, cement manufacturing, and fishing. And although tourism is still in its early stages in the country, Benghazi is one of the key cities used by travellers as a base to explore other areas in near the city.
And Benghazi is not without its share of attractions. For one, the Benghazi Zoo or al-Bosco is an oasis of lush greenery in a hot and dry country. The southern coastal districts of Bu-Fakhra and Jarrutha are ideal places to frolic on the beach. But it is in Central Benghazi where tourists will find many of the city's historic and popular attractions, such as the Benghazi Cathedral and the Al Manar Royal Palace to name a few.
