Sigulda is one of Latvia's famous towns. It is situated on the Vidzeme Region, found specifically on the Gauja Valley, and is called the ‘Switzerland of Latvia'. Though there are no snow capped peaks as what most people will picture when they hear the phrase ‘Switzerland of Latvia', the beautiful hills, flower covered fields, and charming farmhouses, make Sigulda worthy of being called that name.
Sigulda is known for its caves and its castles, making people feel as if they're in a fairy tale. There are several fun activities you can do such as going canoeing, skiing (during winter), ‘flying' with the help of the free flight technology called Aerodium which is the very first in the Eastern part of Europe. Sigulda New Castle is a 19th century castle, a popular attraction and also where the city council is found. Sigulda locals are also known for creating walking sticks ever since the 19th century, thus the Walking Stick Square, made in the year 2007, is considered the town's symbol.
