Riga is Latvia's capital city and is characteristically ‘cosmopolitan' because of its trendy bars and newly renovated structures. There is still the Old Town, of course, with several museums and historical attractions. Riga is also world renowned for having the biggest collection of German Art Nouveau (remember that the city was colonized by the Germans before). Riga was established as a Northern Crusade base, specifically by Albert of Bremen in the year 1201.
In the Old Town, one of the Riga attractions you'll find is the House of Blackheads which is a museum and a visitors' information office. Riga's oldest church: St. Peter's Church, is also situated in the Old Town.
Riga is also popular for its good night life, in fact, most of the clubs and bars there are really open late, unlike those found in other European towns and cities. Examples of frequently visited bars are Pulkvedis which is popular amongst the youth and Skabene which is very relaxing and surely a place to meet new people.
