Cesis is one of the oldest cities of Latvia, which is found in between the Gauja National Park's forests. The very first castle was constructed in Cesis in the year 1206. Eventually, people started living around the castle, and the city of Cesis started to exist, even considered among the most prosperous cities, with Cesis even being one of the members of the Hanseatic League which was an organization focused on medieval trading. The flag of Latvia, believed to be one of the most ancient flags in world history, was considered born in Cesis.
The city of Cesis is known for its interesting castles, cobble stone streets and beautiful parks. The Medieval Castle and Cesis Castle are must sees when in the city. Shopping may be done at Rigas street. Other notable Cesis tourist attractions include the May Park, Victory Monument, Holy Spring and the Square of Rose. Adventurous visitors will love strolling along nature trails and trying the Parachute Jump offered at the Vidzeme Aero Club.
