Ukunda is a Kenyan town in the district of Kwale. It has an airport which is the Ukunda locals' means to promote tourism in the town. Ukunda used to be a sleepy fishing area but now it is part of the tourist attractions, thanks to the waterfront beach houses and resorts right next to it.
Ukunda may not be perfect specifically because of some history of violence and areas that are considered rough. The place, however, has affordable accommodations so if you wish to relax at the white sandy beaches and make the most out of your vacation even on a tight budget, stay in Ukunda. The Corner Guesthouse and the Gombato Lodge are examples of the bed and breakfasts you can stay at while in the town.
If you are looking forward to the nightlife, it is best to bring along a local with you as the usual Ukunda bars may be a little too rough for most people's tastes. During the day, you can visit Diani Beach and go kite surfing, and also check out the Shimba Hills National Reserve for a nature walk.
