Astana

Astana is the new capital of Kazakhstan in Northwest Asia.
The city of Astana just recently got that name, which virtually means "the capital city" when it was pronounced the new political capital of Kazakhstan. It was formerly known by several names like Akmola, Akmolinsk and Tselinograd with the later two given by the communist regime of USSR.
The most notable things in Astana are the major building projects that were initiated after the proclamation of the city as capital. They are held in order to upgrade the city to its current role as capital. Nevertheless Astana remains only the political capital of Kazakhstan with most businesses and influence still concentrated in old capital Almaty.
