Liguria is a region located in the north-western part of Italy a slice of land between sea and mountains, but is for sure a region where to go. This region is divided in two areas: Riviera di Ponente, western part of the region, and Riviera di Levante, eastern part of the region.
Discovering "Riviera di Ponente" means a travel among little beautiful cities equipped for the tourism. Riviera delle Palme, from Varazze to Andora, alternates sandy beaches with rocky parts. In this area, places like Albissola Marina, Sportorno, Noli or Alassio guarantee holidays for families or for sport lovers.
From Imperia to Ventimiglia there's Riviera dei Fiori that presents famous sea cities like San Bartolomeo al Mare, Sanremo ( home of the most famous Italian song festival) and Bordighera.
In Ventimiglia, close to the border with France, it is a worth a visit to the "I Giardini Botanici Hanbury" ( botanic gardens Hanbury) that show local plants, trees coming from tropical and subtropical countries, that could settle in this area due to the great climate conditions. In 1867 the Hanburies, an English family, started to build this garden with the cooperation of professionals, that now has approximately 5.800 species of plants but also was designed armonically with landscapes, builidings and terraces.
The sea in this  Riviera is very beautiful and clean, the beaches equipped and summer nights more pleasant because of many cultural, musical and food events. Sail and old craft lovers cannot miss in Imperia in September the Meeting of epoque boats of Imperia, that takes places every two years in Calata Anselmi di Porto Maurizio.
From Finale Ligure to Bordighera there are many events, most of all the Mostra mercato dell'Artigianato Nazionale in August, a fair that hosts expositors from all over the world with their handicraft jewels, clothes or food products.
If you want to visit Liguria's capital Genoa, you can also think about to visit the Castle d'Albertis that host the "Museum of World Cultures" that also has a permanent expo of the collections of d'Albertis, navigator and local philanthropist.
