Panajachel is a town situated in the Guatemalan Highlands. It is strategically located along the coast of Lake Atitlan, which is the reason it has become the centre of tourism in the area. It provides visitors with the perfect jump-off point for exploring the indigenous towns and villages across the lake.
Panajachel, or Pana to most locals, is filled with a myriad fascinating sights and sounds that can be enjoyed by different travellers. Calle Santander is the main tourist avenue, where one can find many commercial establishments. This includes several bars and restaurants, hotel, and a handicrafts market.
A couple of museums offers tourists a glimpse into the town's past, which includes the Eco Museo, Museo Y Galeria Raul Vasquez, and the Museo Lacustre de Atitlan.
Of course, the primary activity here is taking a boat ride across the lake to the small villages of Santiago Atitlan, San Pedro, San Antonio Palopo, and San Lucas Toliman, which are all well-known for its skilled weavers.
