Guatemala City is the capital and largest urban zone in Guatemala. It is the governmental, economic, and cultural hub of the country, as well as its main port of entry. Serving this city are the La Aurora International Airport, Transmetro, and major highways, which all lead to or originate from the capital.
Antique churches dot the city, giving it a unique architectural and historic touch. These include the Cerrito del Carmen, Calvario, Catedral Metropolitana, and Iglesia de Santo Domingo.
Aside from churches, a number of museums can also be found within the city. These include the Popol Vuh Museum, Archeology and Ethnology Museum, and National History Museum.
Within the bustling confines of the Guatemala City, visitors will find the ancient Mayan city of Kaminaljuyu, an important archeological site in the Americas.
For some laid-back activities, tourists can try a stroll through the main plaza where art, music, and food are provided. For a taste of Guatemala's night life, go to Zona 10.
