Agana, now called Hagåtña, is the capital of Guam. Although, it is the 2nd smallest town in area and population, Hagåtña remains as the seat of government, and the island's major commercial district.
It is located on the western coast of Guam, at the opening of Hagåtña River. It has an area of a square mile and bounded by sandy beaches, a cliff, and the Agana Bay. The village is home to a few high-rise buildings and commercial establishments, which are located at the center of the town. The western part of Hagåtña is the residential area.
Among the tourist spots to visit here is the historic Plaza de España, the Dulce Nomber de Maria Cathedral Basilica, and just across the basilica is the statue of Pope John Paul II. Other sites to visit see here include the Latte Stone Park and the Chamorro Village area where tourists can gain more information on the island's culture and history.
The island's most celebrated holiday, Liberation Day, takes place in town on Marine Corps Drive.
