Hersonissos

Hersonissos is just a 26-kilometer drive from Heraklion, because of tourism has grown in size in just the last twenty years, and is the largest tourist area in Crete. There are only a few thousand permanent residents but each summer the number increases tremendously with service workers and the hundreds of thousands of tourists that visit. Here you will find the only golf course on Crete. There are also a number of hotels offering all-inclusive packages. 
The area is considered the most developed tourist destination in all of Crete because of the high number of quality attractions and services. Down at the harbor there is great nightlife that attracts the younger tourists with bars and discotheques. There are a myriad of shops selling jewelry, clothing and other beautiful products. The restaurants have an array of different types of food from local cuisine to international fare. The neighboring areas offer a more tranquil environment to enjoy a more family oriented vacation.
