The palace of Knossos is a must see attraction of Crete, unfortunately in high season it can also be hot and crowded. So be sure to take a bottle of water in with you. The information signs around the site are good, however a good guide can really make the experience come alive. There are plenty of shops, cafes and tavernas outside the palace and there is a regular bus from Heraklion. In high season it is advisable to go in the afternoon when there are less crowds. If arriving by car as you approch the site you will see lots of 'Car Parks' trying to catch out the unsuspecting tourist. It may say FREE but unless you buy something in the resturant you don't get out for free, so beware, however the official car park right at the site entrance is free.
