Kumasi is a city in central Ghana, Africa.
The city of Kumasi was the historical center of the Ashanti kingdom after the 10th century. It holds the Manhyia Palace - the palace of the Ashanti kings as well as the ruins of the Royal Mausoleum, burnt down by Lord Baden-Powell. After its colonization in the city was build and a slave trading fort.
Other landmarks of the city include one of the country's major universities, the zoo and the lively central market.
The city of Kumasi is an excellent base for exploring the whole inland area of Ghana as it is close to most of the interesting natural parks and inland attractions of the country. It is also one of the major travel hubs of Ghana with an airport and regular buses to the capital Accra. The park of Bonwire, the Owabi Wildlife Resort and Lake Bosumtwi are one of the best day-trips that you can make from Kumasi.
