Batumi is one of the most southern cities of Georgia on the coastline of the Black sea.
The town of Batumi is known with its historic place as major defensive point of the Russian empire in the battles with the Ottoman empire through the 18th and 19th century. The city has both Orthodox and Islamic architectural characteristics, as in the years it was held by both empires. There are little monuments from the free Georgian state in the times before the struggle between the two empires.
Batumi is also known as a sea resort at the black sea and is very good starting point for excursions to near-by botanical gardens and villages of Gonio and Sarpi.
