Georgia is a country on the east coast of the Back sea near the border between Europe and the Middle east.
Georgia is a country with rich history dating from the Ancient times. It was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity as state religion. The "Golden ages" of Georgia were at the end of the 12th century, but after the Mongol invasions, the country's role was diminished. By the end of the 18th century due to the constant treat of the turks, Georgia is forced to forge an alliance with the Russian empire, which was quickly turned into annexation and by 1801 Georgia became part of the empire. In the period 1917-1922 Georgia was independent again, just to be conquered by the Red Army and made part of the Soviet Union. Georgia gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 after a majority referendum.
